Prof. Beverley Hunt joined ISTH TV to discuss her role as the World Thrombosis Day Steering Committee Chair, and to talk about her global effort to raise awareness about thrombosis. World Thrombosis Day (WTD) is a far-reaching campaign, with a mission to not only raise awareness of this worldwide health problem, but to directly and measurably improve patient care and reduce mortality. With over 60% of thrombotic events directly related to hospital admissions, Prof. Hunt explained that by implementing VTE risk assessment, hospitals can dramatically reduce the death rate due to PE. The WTD campaign hopes to reach both clinicians and patients, so they can be aware of the signs and symptoms of thrombosis, and understand the risks and benefits of drug therapy.
